Castelldefels Castle, a landmark of the town of the same name, is open to the public for the first time. In addition to the castle itself, there is also the interactive Piratia exhibition on regional piracy.
Castelldefels was built in the 10th century on Iberian and Roman ruins and served as a defence against Arab invaders and pirate attacks. The name is derived from ‘Castrum Felix’.
The castle is located around 20 kilometres southwest of Barcelona on the Costa del Garraf. An audio tour offers insights into different periods of the castle's history, including the parties of Manuel Girona's high society. The Piratia exhibition uses audiovisual and interactive elements to tell the story of the Mediterranean pirates.
