The Altona Museum is one of the largest regional cultural history museums in Germany and is dedicated to the art and cultural history of the Elbe region and the coastal areas of the North and Baltic Seas. Find out more about life in northern Germany in earlier times and explore an old pharmacy, various farmhouse parlours and the development of shipping and shipbuilding in addition to a Hamburg merchant’s shop.
The permanent exhibition collection shows important exhibits from the fields of painting and graphics, arts and crafts, cultural history, fishing and shipping. With a varied programme of special exhibitions and film and lecture events on topics from the 19th and 20th centuries and the Hamburger Kinderbuchhaus e.V., an interactive children’s section, the Altonaer Museum has become a popular excursion destination for families.
