The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (MK&G) is located on Steintorplatz in Hamburg, Germany, and is one of the most important museums of its kind in Europe. It was founded in 1874 and has since amassed a rich collection of art objects and design exhibits from different eras and cultures.
The MK&G's collection comprises over 500,000 objects covering areas such as applied arts, design, photography, fashion and arts and crafts. Particularly noteworthy are the extensive porcelain collection, the furniture collection and the important collection of Asian artefacts. The MKG thus offers a fascinating insight into the history of arts and crafts and design worldwide. A highlight of the MK&G is the permanent exhibition on the history of photography, which is one of the oldest and most comprehensive of its kind in Germany. Here, visitors can trace the development of photography from its beginnings to the present day.
In addition, the MKG regularly shows changing special exhibitions on various topics such as contemporary design, fashion history or current artistic positions. These exhibitions offer an exciting look at current developments in art and design and complement the museum's diverse collection.
