What is there to see here?

This park is located in the middle of Hamburg and extends from the Dammtor train station to Sankt Pauli. Between the shopping streets, the Congress Centrum, the trade fair grounds and the Heiligengeistfeld, you can forget that you are in a big city. The well-kept green spaces invite you to linger in the midst of peace and lovingly planted greenery. Wide lawns, idyllic streams and small lakes, as well as uniquely designed themed gardens, promise peace and relaxation. But the park is not only interesting for walkers and those seeking peace and quiet. Planten un Blomen is an adventure park offering numerous events for all tastes. The colourful water light shows in summer are a particular highlight. The park was created on the site of former fortifications. When the ramparts lost their military significance in Europe at the end of the 18th century, the site was redesigned as an English-style garden and opened to the citizens of Hamburg. Numerous old structures – such as moats and former bastions – document the eventful history of the park. Don’t miss the roller skating rink in the park – you can rent the necessary equipment here and admission is free! (In winter, the area becomes Germany’s largest open-air ice rink!)

And where do we go from there?

Planten un Blomen runs like a green ribbon through the city. Depending on where you end your walk, you can explore very different neighbourhoods and attractions. And of course, you’ll also find several metro stations and bus stops in the area around the park, giving you easy access to the entire city.

Please note: the display greenhouses in the Old Botanical Garden are currently closed for renovation.
