You can use public transport in Munich free of charge with the Munich City Pass and the Munich Card. Take the underground, bus, tram, suburban railway and regional trains as much as you like. Both the Munich City Pass and the Munich Card give you free travel in the booked area and within the selected validity period of the MVV. If you have a Munich City Pass or a Munich Card, you don’t have to buy another ticket – just get on and go.

City centre area M and area M – 6

With the MVV ticket, you can use large parts of Munich’s public transport network free of charge. The tickets are valid for 24 hours or for several days. The 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-day tickets are valid until 6 a.m. of the following day. When booking the Munich Card or the City Pass, you can choose between the inner city area (zone M) and the entire network (zones M to 6). The ticket for the entire area includes a transfer to and from the airport within the validity period.

There are a total of 12 zones in the MVV area. Zone M covers the city of Munich. Among other things, this includes SEA LIFE Munich, Nymphenburg Palace with the Munich Botanical Garden, the Deutsches Museum and the Lenbachhaus.

Area M-6 includes zones M, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. With this ticket, you can travel to the airport, to Herrsching on Lake Ammersee and to Tutzing on Lake Starnberg. Zone M also includes the New Schleissheim Palace and the Flugwerft des Deutschen Museums, an open-air museum.

This is an overview of the different MVV zones.

Tip!

The museum line bus 100 is a special tip. It operates in the inner city area of the MVV. The route runs from the main station north to the east station and in both directions. The following museums included in the City Card and the City Pass are served:

• Pinakothek der Moderne – art, graphics, architecture and design

• Alte Pinakothek (art museum)

• Museum Brandhorst for contemporary art
