The Altes Schloss Schleißheim in Munich is an important baroque palace that was built in the 17th century. It is located in the municipality of Oberschleißheim, around 17 kilometres north of Munich city centre. The palace was built during the reign of Elector Max Emanuel of Bavaria and served as the summer residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty.
The architecture of Schleißheim Old Palace is characterised by Baroque elements and reflects the splendour and power of the time. Particularly worth seeing are the magnificent façades, the spacious palace garden and the artistically designed interiors, which are decorated with paintings, stucco work and historical furniture.
Today, Schleißheim Old Palace is home to several museums, including the Palace Museum with a large number of historical exhibits and the State Collection of Classical Antiquities with an extensive collection of ancient artefacts.
