Visit one of the main attractions on Marienplatz! The carillon shows you two events from Munich’s history: On the upper floor you can see the wedding of Duke Wilhelm V with Renate of Lorraine in the year 1568. In honor of the bride and groom, a jousting tournament took place on Marienplatz. The lower floor showcases the Schäfflertanz. After a severe plague, the barrel makers were the first to risk venturing out onto the streets, dancing and cheering up the people scared of the plague.
There are six reels waiting for you to hear, each with four songs that alternate on a monthly basis. Be part of it when the music of Richard Wagner's "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg" and Johannes Brahms' "Lullaby" plays (every evening at 9 pm), which puts Münchner Kindl to bed.
