The Marstallmuseum at Nymphenburg Palace in Munich is one of the most important collections of courtly carriage building in the world. The exhibition provides a comprehensive insight into the development of carriages from the end of the 17th century to the end of the 19th century and shows exhibits from Germany, France and England. With over forty representative carriages, sleighs and riding accessories from Wittelsbach ownership, the museum documents three hundred years of driving and riding culture. The centrepiece of the museum – in the truest sense of the word – has always been the coronation carriage of Emperor Charles VII, one of the most beautiful state carriages of the French Rococo period. The rich collection of Wittelsbach gala carriages and carriages culminated in the 19th century with the magnificent vehicles of King Ludwig II. Magnificent harnesses, precious riding accessories and historical pictorial documents bring the courtly world of travelling and representation to life. Discover another exciting aspect of royal life!
On the first floor of the Marstallmuseum, you can see a unique private collection of Nymphenburg porcelain from the 18th to the 20th century.
