Lustheim Palace, a charming hunting and garden palace in Oberschleißheim near Munich, was built between 1684 and 1688 by Elector Max Emanuel on the occasion of his marriage to Maria Antonia, the Emperor's daughter. Designed by the court architect Henrico Zuccalli, the palace is modelled on Italian casino buildings and forms the picturesque focal point at the end of the extensive baroque garden of the Schleißheim palace complex.
The palace impresses with its symmetrical architecture and magnificent interior. In the centre is an imposing, two-storey ballroom, surrounded by the former apartments of the electoral couple. Particularly noteworthy are the artistic ceiling frescoes by Francesco Rosa, Giovanni Trubillo and Johann Anton Gumpp, which glorify Diana, the goddess of the hunt, and represent the first cycle of secular ceiling painting in Bavaria.
Today, Lustheim Palace houses the renowned porcelain collection of Prof. Dr. Ernst Schneider, one of the most important collections of early Meissen porcelain in the world.
