The Theresienwiese is a square in Munich covering an area of 42 hectare. It is probably one of the most popular meadows (Wiese = meadow) in the world as it serves ground for the famous Oktoberfest. The place is named after Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. To celebrate her wedding with Crown Prince Ludwig I. a horse race was organised at the Theresienwiese. The place is especially worth visiting during one of the many events taking place there. Enjoy the spring folk festival Münchner Frühlingsfest or the auf Tollwood-Festival in the winter. Apart from that flea markets are held there. But even if there is no event you can walk around the place and visit the Bavaria statue that offers a great view of the Theresienwiese.
