In Mallorca, holidays and fiestas are very important. Besides party scenes in the summer, the are charming, traditional festivities that happen during the rest of the year.
For example, Mardi Gras is celebrated in many places in Mallorca in February. These celebrations are full of colorful parades with lovingly decorated wagons. On the second Sunday in May, the festival of the Moors and Christians takes place, which is great fun for families. In remembrance of the victory over Turkish pirates in 1561, people dress up and parade themselves through the streets.
In the middle of July, many harbors in big cities and towns celebrate the Virgen del Carmen, who is the patron saint of fishers and sailors. During this festival, a procession of ship with heavily decorated statues and effigies of the Holy Virgin. This festival takes place in the Port d’Andratx, CalaRatjada, Sóller,andPuerto Pollensa in many more places.
On August 28, the Fiesta de Sant Augustin in Felanitz takes place, where you can enjoy Middle Age and traditional dances, riding events, and much more.
On the last Sunday of the month, there is a harvest festival at the end of the grape harvest which features parades, dancing, and live music that is fitting for both younger and older people. On the same day, the Fiesta del Meló in Vilafranca de Bonany celebrates the watermelon harvest.
On October 21, Palma celebrates the Fiesta de Virgin with a huge public festival.
Dijous Bo (Good Thursday): the largest and most popular festival takes place on the third Thursday in November in Loca. A large carnival that features a craft market, dancing, and delicious local food awaits you!
