The Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, located in the Parc de la Villette in the north-east of Paris, is the largest science museum in Europe and a major centre for science and technology. Opened in 1986, the museum aims to make science and technology accessible to the general public and to promote interest in these fields.The striking building, designed by the architect Adrien Fainsilber, is characterised by its modern and futuristic architecture. Particularly noteworthy are the giant sphere, the ‘La Géode’, an IMAX cinema, as well as the planetarium (for an extra charge) and the ‘Argonaute’ submarine, which can be visited.
