Musée national Eugéne Delacroix in Paris

The Musée national Eugène Delacroix, also known as the Delacroix Museum, is a major art museum in the heart of Paris dedicated to the life and work of the famous French painter Eugène Delacroix. It is located in the charming neighbourhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863) is considered one of the leading representatives of French Romanticism and had a lasting influence on the art world with his expressive and dynamic works. His most famous paintings include ‘Liberty Leading the People’ and ‘The Death of Sardanapal’.

The museum is located in Delacroix's last place of residence and work, which he moved into in 1857 and lived in until his death.The museum itself was founded in 1932 when an association of art lovers, the ‘Société des Amis d'Eugène Delacroix’, saved the house from demolition and converted it into a museum. In 1971, the museum was officially recognised as a national museum and is now managed by the Musée du Louvre.The collection of the Musée national Eugène Delacroix includes an impressive selection of paintings, drawings, prints and manuscripts by the artist. Visitors can admire not only his famous works, but also his lesser-known sketches and studies, which offer a deep insight into his working methods and creative development.
