The house was designed by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret and built between 1928 and 1931. However, due to various circumstances, it was never actually used as a residence.

The Villa Savoye is the consistent realisation of Le Corbusier’s formal language from his 1923 manifesto "Five Points to a New Architecture", all of whose principles can be found again: the house on supports, the roof garden, the free floor plan, the long window and the free façade. The Villy Savoye is one of the most important residential buildings of modern architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016.
