What awaits you on site

The Chiesa di Sant' Alvise is located in a quieter neighbourhood away from the usual tourist routes. Although the church looks simple from the outside, it harbours some pleasant surprises inside. Here you will find unique paintings and a complete ceiling fresco created by the talented artists Pietro Antonio Torri and Pietro Ricchi. The church also has a raised choir supported by columns and decorated with ornate railings. The first church on this site was built in the 14th century, but the buildings have been remodelled and renovated several times over the years. The current building dates back to the 17th century and was designed by the famous Venetian architect Baldassare Longhena in the Baroque style. One of the outstanding features of the Chiesa di Sant' Alvise is the imposing altarpiece created by Jacopo Palma il Giovane, which depicts the Madonna and Child. The interior of the church is also richly decorated and houses valuable works of art and frescoes by various artists from different eras.
